FX18 tailsection
Jan 11 2007, 6:42 AM EST
I got the tailsection by truck from Saffraanberg in March 1986. First it was put at Brasschaat at the Lt Avn base, at the time I worked with Col. Vormezeele on his private aircraft collection. Then I placed it in my parents front garden where it stayed untill November 2004. In 1986 several reports were indeed made to police that a plane had crashed. The tailsection served as a landmark for many years for drivers trying to find their way. When in 2004 roadworkers tried to move it in order to expand the road, it completely disintegrated because of heavy corrosion. Unbelievably it turned to pure powder. So, I had no choice than to scrap it, and being a 104 buff for over 30 years it made me very upset! However I still have several parts of FX18, like airbrake, panels, rudder pedals, etc. These are most likely going to end up on FX69.
