In 1971 three Sud Aviation SA316B Alouette III were bought for the Belgian Navy for use as supply helicopter for ships at see. They are primarely deployed on the support ships A960 Godetia and A961 Zinnia (now withdrawn from service). They were operated by a Marine Flight, that reported to 40 Squadron, based at Koksijde. Since july 2004 the flight is completely absorbed by 40 Squadron.

- 250788: during a nightflight during 'Operation Octopus' in the Persian Gulf the helicopter had to ditch at sea. The pilot managed to get airborne again and land on A961 Zinna. Only sustaining light damage, the helicopter was airlifted to Koksijde by C130 for an anti-corrosion threatment
- 181198: modified at Marseille with a (NATO standard) harpoon that fits in the deckgrid of most NATO-ships

- 070979: after a paradrop near Kortrijk the helicopter crashed near the road Kortrijk-Spiere near Kooigem. Crew : 1LTZ Luc Van Maercke and 1MR Van den Berghe (both unhurt). The helicopter sustained serious damage to the tailboom and was repaired at Koksijde.
