The U.S.Government supplied 21 F-84E Thunderjets to the Belgian Air Force. The first four aircraft arrived in crates in the Antwerp harbour on March 12th, 1951 and were assembled at Melsbroek. The first 3 aircraft were officially handed over at Melsbroek on April 3rd, 1951. The aircraft were first taken on charge by 2 Wing at Florennes, later they also saw service in 9 Wing at Bierset and 10 Wing at Kleine Brogel and N° 42 Squadron. In 1956 the remaining aircraft were traded for F-84F Thunderstreaks.
