After a long search for a suitable replacement for the Douglas C47BC-47B Dakota the Belgian government decided on April 8th, 1974 to acquire three Hawker Siddeley HS748s. The HS748-2AHS.748-2A was equipped with a large cargo door on the left hand side and could be transformed from cargo to passenger configuration in a minimum of time. In 2002 the HS748HS.748 was struckwithdrawnoffromchargeuseafterwhen the EmbraersEmbraerhadreplacement aircraft arrived. Two airworthy aircraftHS.748transports were donated to government of Benin andwhile the third aircraft was donatedalsotransferred to serve as a sparesspare-partssource.resource.
