In accordance to Art. IV of the armistice agreement with Germany this country was to deliver at least 75 Fokker D.VII fighters. (the nec plus ultra of the German WW I fighters in 1918). Between 1919 and 1931 at least 35 of these aircraft (others went on into civilian hands) were used by the Aviation Militaire Belge and later the Aéronautique Belge. Some aircraft were assigned to the 9th and 10th fighter squadrons based in occupied Germany to protect the observation aircraft of N° 3 and 4 observation squadrons while others were assigned to the Flying School at Asch (VI Groupe) and later N° 11 squadron. From mid 1922 the Fokker was solely assigned for pilot training and moved with the Ecole de Pilotage from Asch to Wevelgem in September 1924. The last Fokker D.VII's were withdrawn from use by the end of 1931.
