When I was a little boy, we lived in Quaregnon. My mother sent me to a preventorium in Biez. There was an airbase near by as I constantly saw Meteors coming in for landing. I also saw what I would guess were F-84's but not sure. I probably was around 8 or 9 years old and not too familiar with many aircraft except the Meteor. One day they took us for a walk. I didn't think there was nothing out of the ordinary as we used to take walks around the village. This walk I remember very vividly. As we walked along a pasture, we suddenly came upon an aircraft laying on the road. There were tents set up with military guards. The lady who took all the kids for a walk explained that the pilot had crash landed in the field. The aircraft skidded all the way across the pasture, through the fence and across the road, partially damaging a telephone pole. There were also railroad tracks running across the road at an angle, and the aircraft had crossed across the tracks before stopping on the road. I was very exited. I loved airplanes ever since I was a little child. At the preventorium, I watched as the Meteors came in on their landing pattern to the near by airfield, but now I could see one close up. It was an F-8, the front of the meteor was intact and right side up, however, past the trailing edge of the wings, the fuselage was severed and from that section to the tail, it was completely upside down. We were told the pilot ran out of fuel before he could make the airport and that he was OK but suffered back injuries. This would be somewhere around 1956, 1957 even 1958. It was so long ago. Any info about this incident?
